A Desperation for Prayer

Plain and simple: we are less than powerless without the help of the Holy Spirit. History has shown that the great movements of people turning to Christ happen when God’s people lose their self-interest and beg Him to do the impossible.

Prayer is the way we spend those moments with God that are essential to the Christian life. We rely on God for every good thing that we do. We don’t just talk about prayer – it’s a part of the way we breathe.

A Commitment to Learn

We have a lot thrown at us on the field. The unwritten rules of life are totally different here: Do I look a person in the eye when I say hello, or not? Do I eat everything on my plate or leave a little bit to show I’m satisfied? Can I handle the poverty that is all around?

We bring a lot of assumptions about the way life ought to be, and we commit to learning to be broken of them. We commit to diving into the culture and into the Word of God in order to be transformed in our walk with Christ.

A Confidence that God is Working

We take God at His word. He says He is powerfully at work in the world, and we are excited to join Him in that work. We can enter into conversations boldly proclaiming Christ because He is in control. Since we rely on God to change people’s hearts, we give Him all the credit when someone comes to believe in Jesus as Lord.

A Desire for Worship

One day every nation will worship Jesus, and we want to be there. That is our drive in missions – not just a heart of obedience or a compassion for the lost, but a full-blown expectation that God will be praised throughout the world. We long to see His praises sung throughout every people group and language.
